Can you fly anywhere in the USA?

No. There are areas in the United States that are restricted to drone flights for various reasons. Sometimes there are only temporary restrictions for an area. We can also apply with the FAA in some circumstances for authorization in a specific area.

What can be done if an area is restricted for flight?

SV Aerial can still make a 3D model of an object or scene without having to use a drone. Some perspectives may be limited, but we can still make highly accurate models from the ground.

What is photogrammetry?

Photogrammetry is the ability to take accurate measurements from pictures.

What is 3D modeling?

3D modeling creates a digital twin of any object or area in a 3D view from any angle. A point cloud of the object or area is created with millions of measurable points.

How accurate are the 3D models?

The drone experts at SV Aerial can obtain accuracy down to 1/8th of an inch horizontally and 1 centimeter vertically.

How do you ensure accuracy?

SV Aerial uses survey grade GPS equipment to accurately locate our models geographically for correct vertical and horizontal alignment.

What type of modeling software do you use?

Pix4D

What file formats are available for export?

.PLY, .XYZ, .LAS, .LAZ

Can 3rd party software utilize the point cloud created?

Yes, these formats can be imported to various programs for further analysis and reconstruction.

Is this data acceptable as courtroom evidence?

Yes, photogrammetry has passed a U.S. Court of Appeals hearing for admissibility and use in court.

What is a thermal or infrared inspection?

Thermal drone inspections use a drone-mounted infrared camera to take temperature observations on an object.

What factors can affect a thermal inspection?

Weather conditions, an object’s material type, and the distance from an object can all affect a thermal inspection.

What is radiometric data?

Radiometric data is temperature information that is attached to each pixel of a thermal image. This data can then be processed and used for measurements.

Can you make a 3D model with infrared or thermal images?

Yes. Thermal imagery can be helpful for measurement of temperature variations in a specific area of a picture or 3D model.
