3D Modeling for Vehicle Inspections
Drone vehicle inspections are becoming more popular because they provide exact data while also saving time. For the purpose of this blog, however, SV Aerial & Consulting created a 3D model of a pickup truck that could fit in the palm of your hand.
What happened when we flew a drone over a pickup truck?
(DISCLAIMER: No Dr Peppers were harmed in the making of this. A few may have been consumed, though.)
Drones can make vehicle examinations more efficient, more effective. Heck, through the use of a UAV and 3D printer, our drone experts are able to create a replica the size of a matchbox car.
HOW DO WE CREATE A 3D MODEL USING DRONES?
First, we used a drone to conduct a vehicle exam (as seen in the video below).
Next, we conducted a fly-through video of the vehicle for data collection purposes. With the drone and our photogrammetry software, we can take precise measurements anywhere on or around a vehicle.
Once we have the measurements, we can send the data to a 3D printer, which can print a replica of the vehicle at scale.
